On the 30th June, we sent out a rallying cry out to Lewisham to Be the Power, and join us as volunteers at Climate Action Lewisham!

Around 25 people came to our event and listened to current volunteers talk about key local projects that we run, and how we need new volunteers and fresh blood to invigorate our plans and keep them going.

Headlining the evening, our chairperson Zaria Greenhill gave a short talk about the work we do and what it means to be a volunteer.

Then prospective volunteers were free to wander around ‘stalls’ where our project leaders talked passionately about our aims and how new people can get involved.

Our key projects:

  • Influencing the Council: how we can navigate the maze of meetings, committees, policies and councillors, to bear influence on local environmental policy
  • London Borough of Culture: our plans to bring environment and art together
  • Outreach: bringing our message across to the public via stalls, group visits and public meetings.
  • Lewisham Family Cycling Library: ditch the car! Introducing cycling equipment to young families which they can try out and rent, including our electric cargo bike.
  • Litter Picking: organising litter picks around the borough and emphasising the need to reduce waste, reduce conspicuous consumption.
  • Green Your Eats: running a vote for the best vegan restaurant.

There was a great level of interest and huge buzz and energy in the atrium, it was very inspiring to experience.  And it’s not too late to get involved.  If any of the above catches your eye, if you think you want to do more and ‘be the power’, then write to us at info@climateactionlewisham.org

Thanks to all those who came to volunteer on the day, and all new prospective volunteers who came to see us.
